Every Word of God is Pure

Today's Scripture: Proverbs 30 (KJV)

Proverbs 30 (KJV)
1 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,

2 Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.

3 I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.

4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

7 Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

10 Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

15 The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:

16 The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.

17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

18 There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:

19 The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.

20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

21 For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:

22 For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;

23 For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.

24 There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:

25 The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;

26 The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;

27 The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;

28 The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

29 There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:

30 A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;

31 A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.

32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

33 Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

Scripture Meaning

1-6: Agur speaks of himself as wanting a righteousness, and having done very foolishly. And it becomes us all to have low thoughts of ourselves. He speaks of himself as wanting revelation to guide him in the ways of truth and wisdom. The more enlightened people are, the more they lament their ignorance; the more they pray for clearer, still clearer discoveries of God, and his rich grace in Christ Jesus.
In ver. (4), there is a prophetic notice of Him who came down from heaven to be our Instructor and Saviour, and then ascended into heaven to be our Advocate. The Messiah is here spoken of as a Person distinct from the Father, but his name as yet secret. The great Redeemer, in the glories of his providence and grace, cannot be found out to perfection. Had it not been for Christ, the foundations of the earth had sunk under the load of the curse upon the ground, for man's sin. Who, and what is the mighty One that doeth all this? There is not the least ground to suspect anything wanting in the word of God; adding to his words opens the way to errors and corruptions.

7-9: Agur wisely prayed for a middle state, that he might be kept at a distance from temptations; he asked daily bread suited to his station, his family, and his real good. There is a remarkable similarity between this prayer and several clauses of the Lord's prayer. If we are removed from vanity and lies; if we are interested in the pardoning love of Christ, and have him for our portion; if we walk with God, then we shall have all we can ask or think, as to spiritual things.
When we consider how those who have abundance are prone to abuse the gift, and what it is to suffer want, Agur's prayer will ever be found a wise one, though seldom offered. Food convenient; what is so for one, may not be so for another; but we may be sure that our heavenly Father will supply all our need, and not suffer us to want anything good for us; and why should we wish for more?

10: Slander not a servant to his master, accuse him not in small matters, to make mischief.
11-14: In every age there are monsters of ingratitude who ill-treat their parents. Many persuade themselves they are holy persons, whose hearts are full of sin, and who practise secret wickedness. There are others whose lofty pride is manifest. There have also been cruel monsters in every age.

15-17: Cruelty and covetousness are two daughters of the horseleech, that still cry, "Give, give," and they are continually uneasy to themselves. Four things never are satisfied, to which these devourers are compared. Those are never rich that are always coveting. And many who have come to a bad end, have owned that their wicked courses began by despising their parents' authority.

18-20: Four things cannot be fully known. The kingdom of nature is full of marvels. The fourth is a mystery of iniquity; the cursed arts by which a vile seducer gains the affections of a female; and the arts which a vile woman uses to conceal her wickedness.

21-23:Four sorts of persons are very troublesome. Men of low origin and base spirit, who, getting authority, become tyrants. Foolish and violent men indulging in excesses. A woman of a contentious spirit and vicious habits. A servant who has obtained undue influence. Let those whom Providence has advanced from low beginnings, carefully watch against that sin which most easily besets them.

24-28: Four things that are little, are yet to be admired. There are those who are poor in the world, and of small account, yet wise for their souls and another world.
29-33: We may learn from animals to go well; also to keep our temper under all provocations. We must keep the evil thought in our minds from breaking out into evil speeches. We must not stir up the passions of others. Let nothing be said or done with violence, but every thing with softness and calmness.
Alas, how often have we done foolishly in rising up against the Lord our King! Let us humble ourselves before him. And having found peace with Him, let us follow peace with all men.

Scripture Application

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today we continue with the Book of Proverbs with Chapter 30.
In our text today we continue with wisdom with wise sayings for a generation. What catches my eye is verse 5 that says that every word of God is pure, followed by verse 6 that says to add not to His Words. In making application we see that this truth is the same today but many do not heed the these truths picking and choosing what to obey, while others add to the Word to meet there own agenda.

Through all of this the Bibles remains constant, preserved, and the infallible Word of God. How about you? Do you esteem, read, and apply the world of God to your life? Let us learn from our text today to remember to hold fast to the Word of God, not to add or delete from its text because every Word of God is pure.

Israel Celebrates 50 Years of Resettling the Biblical Heartland

Celebrating 50 years since liberation of Judea and Samaria

It was 50 years ago that Israel liberated Judea and Samaria from Jordanian occupation and began resettling the biblical heartland in accordance with both the Word of God and the original League of Nations decisions.

At a ceremony marking the occasion on Wednesday night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said:

"Settlement is important to you in the same way that it is important to me, so I say very clearly: There will be no further uprooting of settlements in the land of Israel.

"The way to make peace is not through uprooting - not of Jews and not of Arabs. We did not get peace when we uprooted settlements, we got terror and missiles and we will not do that again.

"Any territory that falls into the hands of radical Islam becomes the basis for violence, murder and death, and so we will not abandon our national home to danger. Instead we will strengthen our home with this momentum."

While Netanyahu ran all of his past election campaigns on a platform of strengthening the Jewish communities in the disputed territories, he has come under harsh criticism for repeatedly bowing to international pressure by implementing construction freezes.

One of Netanyahu's most outspoken critics in this regard has been Education Minister Naftali Bennett, who told Wednesday's gathering in the Etzion Bloc of settlements south of Jerusalem:

"I don’t take such a step lightly, in order to implement sovereignty, it takes timing and courage. There is no better time than now, as it is clear that we are here by right and not by grace.

"There is no better time that this, even if world resists, we shall overcome it. The world also understands what the Israeli public understands, the Land of Israel will never again be divided!"

What Sex Outside Marriage Says About You

Interview with Paul Tripp

Audio Transcript

This week we are talking with speaker and author Paul Tripp. Paul is the author of a really helpful book titled, Sex and Money. And Paul, one of the themes throughout the book that you make - and it’s an important one - is that sexuality is never secular. Sex is always spiritual. Sex is always worship. Explain this dynamic.

Well, in order to understand the worship nature of sex, again, you have to go back to how we were constructed. Worship is not first an activity. When many Christians hear the word “worship,” they hear Sunday morning, a service, a gathering or, if it is a really cool church, Saturday night. And what is important to understand is that worship is first my identity before it is ever my activity. I don’t just worship on Sunday.

I really worship my way through every moment of every day - every situation, every location, every relationship involves worship. I mean you could argue that, if you took apart the motivation of human beings, the only thing we ever do is worship.

Now, what does that mean? It means that something is always lord over my heart. Something is always controlling my heart, the heart is the seat of my thoughts, the seat of my emotions, the seat of my will and my choices. So it is the control centre of my humanness. So it is impossible for my life not to be ruled by worship.

For example, the words that I say to the people in my life are controlled by what I am worshipping. Think about this: If I am worshipping pleasure and you are in the way of my pleasure, I am going to say angry words to you. But if I am worshipping God and you are in the way of my pleasure, I am going to be patient, kind, and forgiving to you. That is the difference. And so it is impossible for me to take off my worship nature when I am pursuing human sexuality. It is structured by what I am worshipping.

Now let’s be practical. If I am worshipping myself, I will use you for my pleasure and I will hurt you. If I am worshipping sex, I will deny boundaries and go wherever sexual pleasure leads me. If I am worshipping the other person, I will try to find satisfaction in that person that I am never able to find, hurt them, and hurt myself. If I am worshipping God, then I am going to love the boundaries he has set for me, I am going to love my neighbour as myself, and sex will live the way it is supposed to live.
That’s good. So what would you say to an unmarried couple who is presently living together?

This response will sound harsh at first, but let me explain. I would say that God is smarter than you. And when you say, “No, I am not going to stand inside of God’s boundaries,” you are actually saying, “I know more about me and this relationship than God does.” Now God knows that sex is only safe in the context of a long-term, committed relationship between a man and a woman called marriage.

There may be mysteries to that which I will never understand, but I submit myself because I understand God as my Creator knows me. God as Creator knows the sex, and he knows that it is best expressed, it is best beautified and protected and made holy, inside of these boundaries. How arrogant would it be for me to say, “No, I know better”?

IS members get death sentence in Egypt for beheading of Christians

Seven sentenced to death in Egypt for beheading of Christians

EGYPT: Seven members of the Islamic State cell in north western Egypt have been sentenced to death, by an Egyptian court, for the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians in Libya in February 2015.

An AFP report said three of the terrorists were sentenced to death in absentia. The death sentence will be reviewed by the country’s mufti, the official interpreter of Islamic law. There are still thirteen others on trial who will receive their ruling on 25th November.

Prosecutors said a number of the terrorists took part in the beheadings and all seven suspects planned the attacks after being trained at jihadist military camps in Libya and Syria. The Islamic State released the video it called “A Message Signed with Blood to the Nation of the Cross,” In 2015 which caused an international uproar prompting the Egyptian government to strike its base in Libya.

IS in the Sinai Peninsular have terrorized Egypt since 2013 after the removal of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

Relatives of the men, and the minority Coptic community in Egypt, have been honouring the memories of their loved ones every February and many have been emboldened by the refusal of the 21 men beheaded to deny Christ.

One widow said at the time that her husband, “Kept the faith, and was martyred in the name of Christ. His faith was very strong. I’m proud of him. He has lifted our heads up and honored us and all the Christians,” she added.

Children of the martyred Christians also said they are “proud” of the courage their fathers in refusing to renounce their faith in Christ”.

Egyptian Coptic Christian have continuously been targeted by Islamic State and Muslims in communities in Egypt. Over 100 Copts have been killed by the IS terror group in bombings in churches in Egypt sice December 2016 and copts have been targeted and killed in communities by Muslims with radical ideologies.

Many Coptic Christians who have crossed over the border to Libya for work have faced severe persecution and death. “We know it is more likely we will die than live in Libya but we don’t have a choice.”

A Coptic Christian said. “More and more people are going to Libya because of the economic crisis here. You can’t get work, you can’t make money in Egypt. We are aware of the dangers, particularly as Christians,” he said.
