Faith to live by the things we hope for

Day 28 (03 Sept 2017, Sunday)

Since we are Abraham’s offspring, we have to ask God for the same faith that Abraham had - faith to live by the things we hope for (Hebrews 11:1).  Abraham trusted God fully in all His promises, and he had no room for doubt in his heart.

It was such faith that drove him to leave his own country, his kindred and his father’s house.  It was also such faith that compelled him to receive his nephew, Lot, with a magnanimous hear.  It was indeed such faith that he waited patiently for his promised son, Isaac, with much perseverance.
It was such faith in the One who calls into existence the things that do not exist, and the One who raises the dead to life, that he subsequently offered his beloved son, Isaac, to God in obedience.

The faith of Abraham was not lived out in the good seasons of his life where it was smooth and under control, but also when it was difficult, challenging and inconvenient.

Such faith enables us to be staunch when we are faced with challenges and difficulties.  It also enables us to live out a godly lifestyle amidst the hardships that we encounter.
What is more precious to us is that there is a need right now in Malaysia for the people of faith to influence others around them who are lost and persist on with our fervent prayers and life testimonies!

Pray for Family life and influence

Pray for the strengthening of family relationships, between and children, and among siblings.
Pray for parents to be good role models for their children.  Pray for the healing and restoration of broken homes.

Pray for a deeper communication and understanding as well as love and forgiveness to fill each and every home.
Pray for God’s protection over families and against the enemy who seeks to bring strife, divorce and many unwanted incidents among married couples and family members.

Pray for strong discipleship efforts to be exemplified by parents within their homes, and for family prayer altars to be established to make Christ Jesus as the Master of their families.

Vessels of Honor

Today's Scripture: Proverbs 25 (KJV)

Proverbs 25 (KJV)
1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

 Scripture Meaning

Verses
1-3: God needs not search into any thing; nothing can be hid from him. But it is the honour of rulers to search out matters, to bring to light hidden works of darkness.
(4,5). For a prince to suppress vice, and reform his people, is the best way to support his government. (6,7). Religion teaches us humility and self-denial. He who has seen the glory of the Lord in Christ Jesus, will feel his own unworthiness.
(8-10). To be hasty in beginning strife, will bring into difficulties. War must at length end, and might better be prevented. It is so in private quarrels; do all thou canst to settle the matter.
(11,12). A word of counsel, or reproof, rightly spoken, is especially beautiful, as fine fruit becomes still more beautiful in silver baskets.
(13). See what ought to be the aim of him that is trusted with any business; to be faithful. A faithful minister, Christ's messenger, should be thus acceptable to us.
(14). He who pretends to have received or given that which he never had, is like the morning cloud, that disappoints those who look for rain.
(15). Be patient to bear a present hurt. Be mild to speak without passion; for persuasive language is the most effectual to prevail over the hardened mind.
(16). God has given us leave to use grateful things, but we are cautioned against excess.
(17). We cannot be upon good terms with our neighbours, without discretion as well as sincerity. How much better a Friend is God than any other friend! The oftener we come to him, the more welcome.
(18). A false testimony is dangerous in every thing.
(19). Confidence in an unfaithful man is painful and vexatious; when we put any stress on him, he not only fails, but makes us feel for it.
(20). We take a wrong course if we think to relieve those in sorrow by endeavouring to make them merry.
(21,22). The precept to love even our enemies is an Old Testament commandment. Our Saviour has shown his own great example in loving us when we were enemies.
(23). Slanders would not be so readily spoken, if they were not readily heard. Sin, if it receives any check, becomes cowardly.
(24). It is better to be alone, than to be joined to one who is a hinderance to the comfort of life.
(25). Heaven is a country afar off; how refreshing is good news from thence, in the everlasting gospel, which signifies glad tidings, and in the witness of the Spirit with our spirits that we are God's children!
(26). When the righteous are led into sin, it is as hurtful as if the public fountains were poisoned.
(27). We must be, through grace, dead to the pleasures of sense, and also to the praises of men.
(28). The man who has no command over his anger, is easily robbed of peace. Let us give up ourselves to the Lord, and pray him to put his Spirit within us, and cause us to walk in his statutes.

Scripture Application

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today we continue with the Book of Proverbs with Chapter 25. In our text today we start wisdom for leaders as Solomon directed this proverb to the king which are excellent words of wisdom for leaders.

What catches my eye is verse 4 which says if we separated the dross from the silver we will have a finer vessel. In making application we see that we too need to have the impurities sifted from our lives to make ourselves vessels worthy of honor. How about you? Do you see the impurities in your life that need to be sifted? Let us learn from our text today to remember that we need to be sifted to remove the impurities in our lives so we can be vessels of honor fit for the Masters use.

Faith is putting our hope in God

Day 27 (02 Sept 2017, Saturday )

Faith does not put one’s hope on a certain man or circumstance, but in God alone.  Abraham paid no attention to the real life difficulties he encountered.  For the law of nature indicates to him that it is completely impossible for him and Sarah to conceive in their old age.

In order to end those suspicions lingering in the mind of Malaysians, our prayers should not follow the trajectory of doubts in response to various negative issues that have surfaced in our nation. Neither should we pray in accordance to our personal expectations, nor should we instruct God what He ought to do with our prayers.  Our faith should not waiver when our prayers are unanswered.

We need to grasp the promised blessings of God even when our political, economic, legislative, educational and family institutions are caught in a mess, by asking God to breathe His breath on all these sectors, as how prophet Ezekiel did in his vision.  God is able to revive the dry bones.  Malaysia is a lively nation, and God will definitely do much more for her!  Let’s ask God to move mightily among us!

The God we trust is the God who overcomes the storm.  He supersedes all power and all authorities.  He will accomplish great things in accordance to His timing.  Therefore, He expects His people to seek Him and run to Him for help with a living faith.  Our hearts will truly be strengthened whenever we remember the trustworthiness of our God.

Pray for our Personal Walk with God

Thank God for His precious and wonderful gift salvation.  In Christ we have a hope and a future.  In Christ we have all that we need for our lives.
Pray that we will be renewed daily in our love and commitment to the Lord.

Seek to be holy and set apart for His glory and purpose.
Pray for a realignment of our will and priorities, to put the Lord first in everything we do and to submit to His perfect will for us.

Pray for us to have the courage to rise up in hope and in faith, embracing the great works that He shall do through us, in us and for us.

Truth Faith

Day 26 (01 Sept 2017, Friday)

True faith carries the essence of hope.  Those who have faith never lose their hope.
In Romans 4:17-18, Abraham is used by Paul as an imitation for us.  The hope possessed by Abraham is “hope against hope.”  He trusted not on man’s power but God’s promises given to him.
It is a hope that puts one’s confidence in the Word of God, and believes firmly from the bottom of one’s heart that God calls into existence the things that do not exist (v19-21), and He raised the dead to life (Genesis 22:1-19; Hebrews 1:7-9).  “In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations. As he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” (Romans 4:18).

Bear in mind one important things as we pray for our nation, that Malaysia is a nation birthed by God.  God has a good plan over this land, just as He had a glorious plan over the life of Abraham.  Therefore, let’s ask God for help in order that we could trust in His promises, and believe strongly that He will definitely do something good for our land.

The God whom we place our trust in, is there to help us and hear our prayers.  For we believe deeply in our hearts that He will bless Malaysia.  May our prayers be further strengthened by reliance to Your living Word.  In Jesus’ victorious name we pray.  Amen!

Pray for the Healthcare System

Pray that affordable healthcare will be available to everyone especially the poor in the rural areas. Pray for the government to set up a holistic system to detect, diagnose, and treat people with mental health issues, especially depression among the youths.

Pray that the medical professionals, especially the specialists, will value lives above all else and will treat their patients with empathy, care and compassion and not for monetary gain.

Pray for integrity in this realm that all medical manufacturers will uphold quality products. Production of fake and sub-standard health products will be exposed and further production will be stopped by the authorities.
