Seeing & Asking

Day 21 (27 August 2018, Monday)

Matthew 9:38, therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.

When Jesus saw the crowd,  He didn’t just see a crowd of people approaching.  He saw the crowd harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Jesus saw them differently and He felt compassion for them.

May the compassion of Jesus fill our hearts today as we read this verse.  Let us pray that we will see people the way Jesus saw.  We will see the great need of the lost in our nation.  Let His compassion stir our hearts to pray and to intercede fervently for His visitation over the needy.

The Greek word for “ask” is deomai”, which means to ask, beg, desire or long for (with a sense of pressing need because of our lack).  When our spiritual eyes are opened, we will be passionate to pray, to ask, to beg and long for more workers of His harvest field.

May we not merely see the great need of our nation but also the great harvest of the lost souls.  Let us obey Jesus’ instruction to pray earnestly for more workers to be sent to the field.

Do you see what Jesus sees today and ask accordingly to His Heart-felt cry?

Honest & Capable Leaders

Exodus 18:21 Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of the fifties, and of tens.

Good Stewardship in Handling All the Resources

Proverbs 27:23 – 27 Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds, for riches do not last forever; and does a crown endure to all generations?  When the grass is gone and the new growth appears and the vegetation of the mountains is gathered, the lambs will provide your clothing, and the goats the price of a field.  There will be enough goats’ milk for your food, for the food of your household and maintenance for your girls.

Following Jesus’ Model of Ministry

Day 20 (26 August 2018, Sunday)

Matthew 4:23 – 24 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them.

Jesus showed a clear ministry model when He first started serving. His model is to teach Word of
God, to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom, to heal the sick and to deliver the possessed. But before
He started His ministry. He called to Himself His disciples, and He brought them wherever He went.
They went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the
kingdom and healing every affliction among the people.

It seems like Jesus put His priority in ministry, but in actual fact, He chose His disciples in the first
place. Disciple-making is the very first thing of Jesus’ service to God. When He called His disciples
to Himself, He demonstrated for them His model of ministry, in the hope that they would learn from
Him as He prepared His departure in a near future. In time to come, the disciples were to do what
Jesus had been doing, and even greater things would they do in His name. This model was effective
as Jesus healed everyone who came before Him.

And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and
from beyond the Jordan. (v25)

Jesus’ ministry model attracted many to follow Him. They came from all places like Jerusalem, Judea and other countries. All of them experienced healing and deliverance, and all their needs are met.

Therefore, we have to start learning the model of Jesus’ ministry from this day onwards.

 Anointed with the Spirit of God

Isaiah 6:1 The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me because the LORD has anointed me to
bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty
to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

 Empowerment with the Heavenly Authority

Mark 16:17 – 18 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will
cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands;
and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick,
and they will recover.”

A Sharp Axe

Today's Scripture: Ecclesiastes 10 (KJV)

Ecclesiastes 10 (KJV)
1 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.

2 A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.

3 Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.

4 If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.

5 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler:

6 Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.

7 I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.

8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.

9 Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.

10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.

11 Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.

12 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

14 A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?

15 The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.

16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

17 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.

20 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

Scripture Meaning

To preserve a character for wisdom. (1-3) Respecting subjects and rulers. (4-10) Of foolish talk. (11-15) Duties of rulers and subjects. (16-20)

Verses 1-3
Those especially who make a profession of religion, should keep from all appearances of evil. A wise man has great advantage over a fool, who is always at a loss when he has anything to do. Sin is the reproach of sinners, wherever they go, and shows their folly.

Verses 4-10
Solomon appears to caution men not to seek redress in a hasty manner, nor to yield to pride and revenge. Do not, in a passion, quit thy post of duty; wait awhile, and thou wilt find that yielding pacifies great offences. Men are not preferred according to their merit. And those are often most forward to offer help, who are least aware of the difficulties, or the consequences.
The same remark is applied to the church, or the body of Christ, that all the members should have the same care one for another.

Verses 11-15
There is a practice in the East, of charming serpents by music. The babbler's tongue is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison; and contradiction only makes it the more violent. We must find the way to keep him gentle. But by rash, unprincipled, or slanderous talk, he brings open or secret vengeance upon himself. Would we duly consider our own ignorance as to future events, it would cut off many idle words which we foolishly multiply. Fools toil a great deal to no purpose.
They do not understand the plainest things, such as the entrance into a great city. But it is the excellency of the way to the heavenly city, that it is a high-way, in which the simplest wayfaring men shall not err, (Isa 25:8). But sinful folly makes men miss that only way to happiness.

Verses 16-20
The happiness of a land depends on the character of its rulers. The people cannot be happy when their princes are childish, and lovers of pleasure. Slothfulness is of ill consequence both to private and public affairs. Money, of itself, will neither feed nor clothe, though it answers the occasions of this present life, as what is to be had, may generally be had for money. But the soul, as it is not redeemed, so it is not maintained with corruptible things, as silver and gold.
God sees what men do, and hears what they say in secret; and, when he pleases, brings it to light by strange and unsuspected ways. If there be hazard in secret thoughts and whispers against earthly rulers, what must be the peril from every deed, word, or thought of rebellion against the King of kings, and Lord of lords! He seeth in secret.
His ear is ever open. Sinner! curse not THIS KING in thy inmost thought. Your curses cannot affect Him; but his curse, coming down upon you, will sink you to the lowest hell.

Scripture Application

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today we continue in the Book of Ecclesiastes with Chapter 10.
In our text today we see we are to behave wisely but if we are unprepared or unskilled we will have little or no impact on our situations.

In making application we see the importance of studying the Word of God to be a workman in our lost world. Just as an sharp ax will be more effective so will a laborer for the Lord who understands the doctrines of the Bible. How about you? Do you have a knowledge of the doctrines of the Bible? Let us learn from out text today to remember that just as a sharp ax is more effective as a tool - so is a Christian who understands and applies the doctrines of the Bible.

Hands that Perfom (Signs & Wonders, Healing & Deliverace)

Preface for Day 16 – 20:  Harvest and Signs & Wonders

The Lord of the harvest is building His Bride who will reveal God’s glory and power through submission & obedience to Him.

Focusing on East Coast and Southern States (Pahang & Johor)

Pahang:  1,426,209 (Malay: 73.8%; Chinese: 16%; Indian: 4.4%; Other: 5.8%).  Pahang is the state in Peninsular Malaysia, which covers primeval rainforests, and forms the major part of Taman Negara National Park and Endau Rompin State Park.  This formidable mountain range from the north to the south is natural divider between East Pahang and West Pahang that houses pockets of non-Malay bumiputeras (Orang Asli) villages.  The Christian population is only 1.8% who are made up from the non-Malays bumiputeras, Chinese and Indians.  Kuantan became the state capital as late as 1955, when the British relocated the capital from Kuala Lipis.  It is now a commercial town and a major transport hub.  Pekan, located in the south bank of Sungai Pahang, the longest river in Peninsular Malaysia, is the royal town of Pahang.  It is also the hometown of the 2nd Prime Minister of Malaysia, the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, and also the former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Johor:  3,076,384 (Malay: 57%; Chines: 34%; Indian: 7%; and Others: 2%).  The third largest state in Peninsular Malaysia.  Johor Bahru, the state capital is located on the southern tip of the peninsular.  It is linked to Singapore via the causeway which serves as the “Southern Gateway”, a bustling commercial hub.  The people in Johor are proud to be Johoreans, coining the concept of “Muafakat Johor”.  Pontian, a district of South West Johor, is populated mainly by Malays of Bugis and Javanese descent.  The name Pontian, believed to be transformed from “Perhentian”, means a stop, as it used to be a stop for both merchants and pirates.  It was also a landing point for the Indonesian navy during the Konfrontasi Malaysia-Indonesia in the 1960s.

There is Miracle where there is Compassion

Day 19 (25 August 2018, Saturday)

Matthew 9:33 – 36 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.  When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Jesus performed many signs and wonders as He proclaimed the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.  He saw along the way many who were harassed and helpless.  He had compassion for them.

As Jesus rushed to Jairus’ place for the healing and resurrection of his daughter, there came a woman with the issue of blood.  She touched the fringe of Jesus’ garment.  Jesus stopped and turned and said to her:  “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well” (Matthew 9:22).  He also healed the two blind men who said to Him, “Have mercy on us, Son of David” (Matthew 9:27).  Jesus had compassion on them and He healed them in accordance with their faith.  Then came another mute man who could not even ask for healing, and he was brought before Jesus by someone else (Matthew 9:32 – 33).  Jesus showed His compassion by driving away the demon in him.

Miracles occur when there is compassion.  Jesus was driven by compassion whenever He saw people afflicted by all sicknesses, or possessed by demons, or worn down by sins.  He healed them as He saw them like sheep without a shepherd.  More and more of God’s anointing and power shall be released when we have compassion for people who are in need.

People with a religious spirit, especially those who harbour evil in their hearts, will definitely rise and resist us as we perform signs and wonders.  But we are not to be afraid.  The core of the Truth is compassion, though we have to pay a high price to do so.  We need to keep on doing the right thing.

Pray for the Families of Pahang & Johor

Believers’ Families to Serve God Together

Joshua 24:14-15 Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness.  Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.  And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell.  But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

The salvation of Non-believing Spouses

1 Peter 3:1 – 2 Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct.
